Testimonial

I appreciate my students who inspire me stay real, stay true, stay revolutionary. Thank you my mates.

I've been teaching for seven years in art and design pre-foundation level in 2013 but never shared about the experiences. Below are testimonials and sharings from my art design students whom I've learnt so much from. For instance, team spirit, positive thinking, die hard attitude, don't sweat the small stuff mindset just to name a few! Some kind words from them ...

From Class 2013, Understanding Design

Ms Wong has the best energy when she comes to class. She is very enthusiastic which rubs on to me too. ~ AHMAD HAMIDUDDIN B SUPANGAT

It was a real good time learning from Wong Si-Y. A great joy indeed. The time that she takes to explain and walk through the things that we can do in order to complete our assignments. The dedication that she puts into teaching her students is really admirable. She makes us think on our feet, and makes sure we leave the class having learnt something. She is very approachable person and always tries her best in clearing any doubts that we have. ~ CHEANG WEI YANG, JEREMY

I really appreciate Si-Y for teaching me this past few months. She really genuinely care about us. And knows when are the right times to push us to be better at the same times gives us space to explore and develop our own style. She is always open to sharing with us her knowledge and experiences as  a designer. I really like how she sends us weekly emails to encourage, inspire us. Thank you Si-Y for teaching me .I am going to miss all your fulfilled late evening lessons. ~ CYNTHIA WEE SU YI

Si-Y is very helpful towards the class. She sent us links to help us gain more ideas for our work. She has helped me to understand that ideation process in design is very important. ~ ELEANER CHOO KAI XIN

To Si-Y, I enjoyed being in your class and feel honored that you are my art teacher. You always give me motivation and encouragement be it in class or through emails that you always send to the class. I used to think that I can't draw because I don't have any art background. However, you managed to change my thoughts about this. Even though I'm still learning on how to draw, I find myself better in drawing than before. Teaching me about the basics of art is already fine enough for me. When I saw the books/drawing pads that you brought to class that day, I was amused to see all the drawings and sketches that you drew. Indeed, you're one talented teacher. Very talented. I was quite motivated to do my best for the next assignment after I saw all those drawings and sketches. May you succeed more in life and God Bless You. ~ IZZAH ATISHA BTE MAZLAN

Dear Si-Y, thank you for guiding me through all these months. At first, I had no confidence in myself in design at all, but with your help, I slowly gain confidence. I know my work may not be good but I am confident that with all your tips, I know I'll slowly improve. I'm glad that you are our Understanding Design lecturer. Thank you for everything. We'll miss you. ~ LIONG SHU MIN PEARLCELIA

Ms Wong is rather special kind of lecturer. She is childlike and very outgoing. She tries to make the lesson more interesting week after week. She is very caring and listens to the problems we face in other lessons. She is very understanding on the submission date of each assignment. She spends time after lessons to go through our art piece. The Understanding Design journey was a long journey with millions of ups and downs. We shouldn't mind the journey because only the destination matters. ~ MOHAMED ASHIQ S/O SHAIK B M

Dear Si-Y, your lessons are very informative and interesting. You never fail to provide ways to improve my artworks and your positive attitude inspires me to produce even greater work. ~ MUHAMMAD B ANWAR BAHAJJAJ

Hey There Si-Y!!!! I just wanna let you know how precious your lessons were and how you tried your best to teach us in a fun way! You were very fierce at a first sight, but then it turned out differently after lessons passed and now it is time to say goodbye. L The most fun thing I ever love about your lessons is the notes that you gave and the brief. It is so detailed and no one can go wrong with it. You try your best to pour our all the knowledge that you have. I'll miss your lessons definitely cause I got no one to tease with and I cannot answer back all your negative comments even though I'm supposed to swallow it. Thank you for teaching us Si-Y and enjoy your life! ~ MUHAMMAD HAREEZ B AZMI

Ms Wong Si-Y is a helpful lecturer she not only give advices about design but about life itself. She is very approachable and clear about her work and the instructions she relay to us. She is a hardworking teacher. I trust her a lot. ~ NUR AMYRA BTE MAWAN

She is very kind and helpful teacher. Always giving feedback and advice on how to improvise our art piece. ~ NUR FILZA ASMIRA BTE ABDUL R

As a student who does not like to be in doubt, I constantly ask questions and Si-Y has answered them all with ease. Passionate about design, Si-Y motivated me to do well and to work hard. She nurtured the right values of design in me such as hard work is a talent. It made me strive to do well and work hard. I am more than happy to say she is a good teacher and have inspired me to do well. ~ PHUA JUAN YONG

Si-Y is a very good lecturer that embodies a motherly figure that cares for us. For example, fighting for us when Veron had given us last minute assignments that we simply had no time to do. Si-Y also taught us the basic concepts of drawing and artistry which opened up a whole new world for me, and I look forward, hope that she will still be able to be my Design Fundamentals lecturer next year when I enter design  school as a Year 1 student. ~ REZEL ANDRE MARC

I find my lecturer - Si-Y, a caring and enthusiastic person. She always give relevant feedback and hint to us the areas we should touch up or work on. She is also honest about what she thinks of our art piece and by there we are able to improve on the areas we are weak at. When I first came to her lesson, I didn't even know how to sketch a circle but now, with her help, I am able to draw different items with shading as she teaches some of the basic rules of sketching. One of the traits that was valuable in assisting me in this learning journey is how she encourages us to have different ideas and thumbnails to get a better expression of the word we are trying to portray. ~ SALIMAH BTE MOHD SALEH

Ms Wong comes off as very stern and unforgiving in the beginning, but proves you different as you get to know her over time. She is very carefree and casual in her style of teaching, making you feel very comfortable. She often brings rather thick and heavy art/illustration books for us to share around in class to inspire us, as well as email us inspirational stories, pictures and videos to keep our motivation in check. In addition, she calls to check on us (via emails and phone calls), and lightens workload when she notices our homework schedule is tight. She is very understanding, and offers advice where needed, for both your personal and school life. Her passion for art, illustration, and drawing is also very inspiring, and she shows us her personal sketchbooks as well. I feel that though she sets her expectations for us very high, it’s beneficial to us. It keeps us from slowing down and slackening. She’s very nurturing, and I appreciate all the effort she’s put into lecturing us very much.  I am going to miss her being our UDE lecturer. ~ UMAIRA BTE FAROUK

To Ms Wong Si-Y, Firstly, I would like to thank you for all the efforts that you put in to make us produce good works. I really like it when you sent us emails on inspirational art works or motivational talks by successful people. This makes me think even deeper whenever I do my artwork and also set a goal in life. For instance, I really like one of the vides that you sent  on Phil Hansen. I have learned that everyone has their own struggles and we should learn to work within our own limitations. It is really inspiring for me. Secondly, I like the fact that you allow us to do our own work during your class (even though some of us, including me, might take advantage of that sometimes ; P). I realized you are actually training us to be an independent learner by giving us freedom to do our own work before consulting you. Thirdly, I feel that you are really approachable and open-minded person. Remember that time where we talked at ITAS? I realized that you are actually quite an open individual. You didn't mind sharing with me and my friends your experiences in life, which i think not all lecturers will do that. You made me feel like you are easier to reach and someone whom I can trust and ask for advice. Lastly, I find that you are a very experienced individual based on what you have shared with us that time at ITAS and also based on your drawing and thinking skills. For instance, you looked very confident when you hold a pencil or pen to draw or sketch something. This reflects how experienced you are. I also realized that you are a very kind independent woman. You live on your own and also do things for meaningful purposes. Therefore, I wish you the best of luck in the future. Take care and you will be missed by ID06! ~ YEO TIAN POH

I think Si-Y is very truthful towards me and gives me constructive advices and comments on how to improve my work every time I show them to her. She's really patient and helpful and sometimes helped with my work by demonstrating/showing examples to help me visualize better. Although she might be quite strict at times, I'm sure she meant us good and wants the best out of us. She also constantly emailed us about researchers that could be helpful in progressing our work; she even showed pictures of different design images in class and explained to use clearly what it is about. I'm thankful to have a lecturer like Si-Y. ~ ZOE LOKE YI QIAN
